Juan Pablo Montoya’s No. 01 Ganassi Racing BMW Riley led the 51st Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway after six hours.

Montoya’s car, which he is sharing with Scott Pruett, Memo Rojas, and Charlie Kimball, has been the fastest in the 17-car Daytona Prototype field. It seems to have a slight advantage over the Ford and Chevrolet powered cars on the long Daytona straights. At times both Max Angelelli (Wayne Taylor Racing) and Alan McNish (Starworks) have been able to match the best Ganassi lap times, but not on a consistent basis.

Mike Rockenfeller in the best-placed of the two Action Express Corvette DPs lay in second overall, ahead of Jon Fogarty (Bob Stallings Corvette) and Joey Hand (Ganassi Racing).

The No. 8 Starworks Ford Riley of Ryan Dalziel held down fifth, followed by the second Action Express entry and the Wayne Taylor Racing Corvette.

In GT, the Ferraris of AIM Autosport and Scuderia Corsa Michelotto ran one-two and the Alex Job Porsche held down third.

The BGB Motorsports Porsche Cayman was leading in the new GX class, which has not done well in its first race.

The race has featured two cautions for a total of 14 laps.
