LEXINGTON, Oh.—RSR Motorsports returns to racing action this weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, where the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge season continues with round five. Mid-Ohio is a special track for RSR’s Sarah Cattaneo and Corey Fergus, and they hope their history at the track will lead to success in the race.

Fergus, who will co-drive the No. 197 Cruise America/Thor Motor Coach Honda Civic Si with Owen Trinkler, hails from nearby Powell, Ohio. In addition to being his home track, Fergus has grown up watching his dad race at Mid-Ohio. In fact, he recently cheered his dad on during an SCCA Sports 2000 race at the 2.258-mile course.

Fergus is also an instructor at the Mid-Ohio School, and he says that all of those laps he drives throughout the year should reap big rewards in the race. “Being patient and knowing when it’s safe to make a move will be important,” Fergus says. “We’ve got a fast car, but Mid-Ohio is a very technical, difficult track. It’s a driver’s track: it takes a lot of skill to be fast there. I think we have the talent, and now we need some luck, and we need to be smart about the decisions we make in the car.”

Sarah Cattaneo didn’t have the advantage of growing up near Mid-Ohio, but the Scottsdale, Arizona, resident felt an instant connection to the track. “Mid-Ohio is one of my favorite tracks. Sometimes drivers just click with tracks, and that’s one I’ve always clicked with. It’s absolutely beautiful up there, and the history behind it is just fantastic,” she says.

In fact, Cattaneo earned the Street Tuner pole at Mid-Ohio in 2011. This year, she hopes to be up front again in the No. 198 RSR Motorsports Honda Civic Si that she co-drives with Chris Puskar. Cattaneo has always been in a fast car at Mid-Ohio, but circumstances haven’t let the results show it.

“We almost won the championship there (in 2011) and it was really heartbreaking. Last year I led for a while, but we didn’t get the results. Luck hasn’t been on our side, and this year going there with the Honda for the first time will be another challenge for me,” Cattaneo says. However, she adds, “I think the Honda will be good at Mid-Ohio. A Honda won there last year, so I think we have a shot.”

In addition to the No. 197 and 198 Hondas, RSR Motorsports will also enter the No. 196 US LED/Thor Motor Coach Honda Civic Si of Tom Dyer and Andrew Novich. Fans can see the three Hondas in action during the 2.5-hour race, which starts at 10:35 a.m. ET on Saturday, June 15. The race will also be broadcast on SPEED on June 23 at 4:00 p.m.
