DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (February 1, 2002) - Darren Law turned in another great performance for Porsche in the first Grand American Cup Street Stock Series at Daytona International Speedway.
After starting the #01 G&W Motorsports/Jennifer Fund Porsche GT3 Cup car in third on the grid, Law quickly jumped into the lead. He held the overall front position until 20 minutes into the race when he was passed by the #76 Porsche.
"My tires started to go off and I switched spots with the leader (Scott Maxwell)," Law said. "I started to gain on him when he had tire problems, but never caught him.=20
When Law pitted at the hour mark, he had the #07 in second place overall. Co-driver Steve Marshall climbed aboard and finished the car in 6th position.20
Although they did not turn in a podium finish, Law was pleased with the first Cup race of the season.
"I had a blast out there," Law said smiling. "The G&W crew did a great job on setting up the car. The car couldn't have handled better.
Law will take the green flag in the #07 G&W Motorsports/Momentum Motorscars/HCI Insurance/Valley Crane Picchio Protoype at the 40th Anniversary of the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona beginning tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. EST.
