BSI Racing: Top-10 finish at Homestead

After racing in the second KONI Challenge Series event, BSI Racing earned their first top-10 finish of the season at the Homestead-Miami Speedway. Justin Hall and Magnus Karlsson in the No. 58 Mazda MX-5 finished in 10th place. The team's second MX-5 race car, the No. 56 driven by Todd Buras and Carlos Garcia finished 29th.

The entire two and a half hour race threw endless obstacles at the BSI team. The MX-5's were quick and agile enough to navigate around the race carnage but they did encounter a few minor on-track collisions. "The whole race was a battle with the track conditions and the heat. But the BSI team gave me a great car," said Hall, who finished off the race in the No. 58 MX-5. "The car ran better during the race than it had all week in practice. When Magnus handed the car off to me it was still in great shape. During one of the pit stops for fuel the team was able to make an adjustment on the brakes which really helped me hit the apex. It was great running out there and it would have been even better if the No. 56 car was with me at the finish of the race," said Hall.

The No. 56 car started off the race on a competitive note. Then after the 5th lap while Garcia was in the car the team lost third gear. Garcia was able to maintain speed and stay competitive while out on track. Garcia turned the car over to Buras on lap 31. Buras did what he could with the car but after turning another 20 laps the entire gear box gave out. The team had to bring the No. 56 into the garage after turning 48 laps.

Overall the team was happy with their race results. Team owner, Stu Brumer was content with the 10th place finish. "What was great about the weekend was that each time the cars went out on track they consistently got better. We were able to make adjustments to the cars that worked. I am very pleased with the progress we have been making. We still have a learning curve to deal with but it is not as steep as originally expected," said Brumer.

The team is back on the road with their next race at the Iowa Speedway on April 21.
