SpeedSource Mazda RX-8 Takes Win in Fight to the Finish

Lexington, Ohio - With five Mazda's in the grid and a fight to the finish, SpeedSource Race Engineering received a much deserved win at the Mid Ohio Sports Car Course. SpeedSource cars finished first, seventh, and tenth on Sunday afternoon in front of excited fans at the Mid Ohio 250.

It was all about pit stop strategy for the No. 70 car as the end of the race was approaching. Even with a potentially damaging yellow flag in the 86th lap the team kept the second place No. 95 BMW at bay. A green flag in lap 90 made for a tight battle in the sport touring class. SpeedSource drivers Sylvain Tremblay and David Haskell finally took the checkered flag for the team.

"We had a good pit stop. The yellow at the end hurt us a little bit but we had a good day. The crew was awesome and fuel was close (at the end). It just a good pit stop," commented Haskell.

This was the second win SpeedSource has achieved in the Sport Touring class this season. The team's first win at Phoenix was also the first professional win for the Mazda RX-8. Mazda now ranks third in manufacturer points. Consequently, the team is third in team points and drivers Haskell and Tremblay are third in driver points.

Two rookie drivers in the No. 65 car took seventh place for the team. Kim Wolfkill and co driver Ray Huffmaster placed seventh in the Grand Am Cup 250. Huffmaster started the race for the pair in his first ever Grand Am Cup race. Wolfkill ended the race for the duo.

The tenth place finish went to Marcello Abello and teammate Justin Bell. This finish brings SpeedSource nineteen top ten finishes for the season. Other drivers for the Speed Source Mazda effort include David Tuaty, Scott Schlesinger, Rich Walker, and Nick Fanelli.

"I am proud of the entire team. It is testimony of the whole SpeedSource group. All the hard work paid off. We had 40 guests from Mazda watching the race and it was a great win for them. Hopefully, this will bring good luck for Mazda at the Run Offs," Tremblay stated.
