Hemmingson Leads Subaru Factory Team in Qualifying for Mid-Ohio Grand-Am KONI Challenge Race
Chuck Hemmingson headed the Subaru Road Racing Team in qualifying for Sunday's Grand-Am KONI Challenge race at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course with a 98.213mph lap average around the twisting, undulating 2.4-mile road racing course.
It was at Mid-Ohio last year where Hemmingson, Des Moines, Ia., and fellow team driver Kris Skavnes, Sparta, N.J., won the Street Tuner class in the series, scoring the team's second race of the season.
The team's second Subaru Legacy 2.5GT spec.B, qualified by David Rosenblum and partnered with then team driver Andrew Aquilante of Phoenixville, Pa., qualified 14th, 30 seconds out of the win, after a second, precautionary fuel stop. Rosenblum, Langhorne, Pa., turned in a lap time only 2/10ths of a second slower, in a field where the ten fastest qualifiers were within one second.
Motorsports marketing manager for Subaru of America, Inc., James Han, referred to the team's history of success at Mid-Ohio. "We're comfortable with our car's chassis setup from previous visits here and hope to follow up last year's win here with similar success, despite the tremendous growth in the size of the Street Tuner field."
"I'm confident in the performance and durability of our products. Plus, the team has done an exceptional job in preparing our team cars for consecutive race weekends." Han further added, "I appreciate Don Knowles joining our driver line-up for two events [at Lime Rock Park and Mosport International Raceway]. He was a positive asset to the team in the #141 Subaru Legacy."
Rosenblum and Joe Aquilante are partners in ICY / Phoenix Racing which prepares the Subaru Road Racing Team cars.
