Matt Plumb Wins at New Jersey Motorsports Park

(Millville, NJ) 31 August 2008-- Matt Plumb etched his name in the history books on Sunday as he won the first professional race held at New Jersey Motorsports Park in the Grand-Am KONI Challenge Supercar Life 150 in the No. 29 Bill Fenton Motorsports Honda Certified Used Cars/Southern Auto Auction Honda Civic Si with co-driver Bob Beede.

Beede opened the race from the fourth row of the ST class grid before turning the machine over to Plumb just over 30 minutes into the two and a half hour race distance. Plumb then powered to the front, at one point leading the entire ST and GS combined field, while still making the most of the Civic Si fuel mileage to fend off the late-race advances of the championship-leading machine.

"I have to thank Bill Fenton Motorsports for giving me a really consistent car for this race, it was just great to drive," said Plumb. "Even though we had to come in for the penalty, the car was quick enough to run and stay up front, and the yellows worked out perfectly for us to make it to the end and hold those guys off. I really wanted to give Bob (Beede) and Bill (Fenton) another win, and this was a great way to start out the day!"

Plumb has a long and successful history with the Fenton Motorsports organization, including taking runner-up in the 2006 KONI Challenge Championship with his brother Hugh for the team.

"Matt did a great job," said team owner Bill Fenton. "It didn't look like we were going to make it on fuel after we pitted so early. It was a daring move because we initially thought that we were going to have to come in for a splash and go, but Matt saved just enough and the yellows went long enough that we were able to make it to the finish and here we are in victory lane!"

After running a strong two hour stint in the KONI Challenge to take the race win, Plumb then changed driver suits to strap into the RumBumRacing.com Daytona Prototype for the feature Supercar Life 250 race, starting from the sixth position he scored in qualifying and running nearly another full two hour stint in the lead pack before turning the machine over to co-driver Gene Sigal to come home with a 12th place result.

"It was a long day out there, but as a racer you can never complain about getting plenty of seat time," said Plumb, who had plenty of family and friends on hand for his long day of racing. "It was great to start the day out with a win and then to have a good run without any mechanical issues in the Rumbum.com car, so I'm pretty happy with the day. I'm going to sleep well tonight, no question!"

Plumb will be back in race action again for the season finale at Miller Motorsports Park in three weeks time as he closes out his Mesco Rookie season in the Daytona Prototype ranks.
