Subaru Road Racing Team Podiums at Home Track
- Skavnes, Aquilante Finish 3rd -
Racing before a sizable crowd of friends, family, and guests from Subaru of America, Inc's nearby corporate offices, Subaru Road Racing Team drivers Kris Skavnes and Andrew Aquilante raced their Subaru Legacy 2.5GT spec.B to a third place finish in round 8 of the Grand-Am KONI Challenge series race on the New Jersey Motorsports Park's Thunderbolt Raceway circuit.
Their finish, less than two seconds away from the class win, holds Skavnes in second place in the Street Tuner class Drivers' Championship standings with two races remaining this season. The team's cars are prepared and managed by ICY / Phoenix Racing, based in nearby Phoenixville, Pa. Aquilante hails from Chester Springs, Pa., and Skavnes' residence in Sparta, N.J., is even closer to the new track.
"There was a lot of carnage in the race," noted Skavnes, who got to run many of his race laps under the control of the safety car. "Had it not been for the extended caution flag sessions, the strategy to pit our second car when we did could have produced different results for us." As it was, co-drivers Don Knowles, Pittsboro, N.C., and David Rosenblum, Langhorne, Pa., finished 21st in the class."
Joe Aquilante and Rosenblum co-partner the ICY / Phoenix Racing team which campaigns a pair of Subaru Legacy 2.5GT spec.B race cars in the Grand-Am KONI Challenge series.
The team's Subaru Legacy 2.5GT spec.B race cars are originally manufactured at Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. (SIA), in Lafayette, Ind., as factory showroom vehicles and prepared by ICY Racing / Phoenix Performance for racing application.
"The entire team really excelled today," beamed James Han, motorsports marketing manager for Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA). "Racing here at NJMP has been a learning experience for nearly all the teams as it's an entirely new track. The performance by SRRT (Subaru Road Racing Team) certainly represented a source of pride for all the Subaru associates and our guests today. With the dusty conditions that everyone experienced on this new race course, our drivers certainly applied their Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive Systems to good effect."
