Sunrise, FL -- SpeedSource Race Engineering is based in Sunrise, Florida; thousands of miles from Mont Tremblant. Yet when SpeedSource driver and owner Sylvain Tremblay heads to the track located just outside of Montreal, he will be gunning for a win at what he feels to be his home track.
Tremblay has raced since winning the first race he ever entered-an SCCA autocross at age 16. Turning his love of racing into a business followed after many years of SCCA events in the U.S., and racing at the Jim Russell school at Mont Tremblant in Canada. Winning and gaining honors in both series, Sylvain, a native of Montreal, took up permanent residence in Florida in 1990. SpeedSource was established in 1995 to provide full-service race services and custom components to both SCCA and pro drivers.
From humble beginnings in 1995 the Florida based team has now climbed their way up to the top class in sportscar racing, the Daytona Prototype class, part of the Grand American Rolex Series. The team switched classes mid season from the Grand Am Cup Grand Sport I Porsches to the Ford Multimatic Daytona Prototype.
"When we went to Trois Rivieres (which is also just outside of Montreal) in 2001 we were able to win two races on the same weekend," commented Tremblay. "We are shooting for that again this weekend. The Daytona Prototype concept is very exciting and we are learning a lot about this car by running it this season.
"It is a six hour race and that means anything can happen. Paul Mears and Selby Wellman are both adapting very well to the car so we are hopeful for this weekend."
"Driving the car at the Glen was good," Mears commented about the team's first outing with the car. "Running the remaining DP races is getting us very well prepared for next season."
The team's second shot at victory is with the Sports Touring I Porsche Boxster. The team is shooting for a strong finish in the STI Championship with Scott Schlesinger heading up the driver roster.
The Grand Am Rolex Series six hour race will start on Sunday at 11:00 AM. The Grand Am Cup race will start on Saturday at 2:15 PM and last for 250 miles with a three hour time limit.
