First Pole, Another Top-Five Finish for SpeedSource Race Engineering Team

Mont-Tremblant, Quebec, Canada, May 26, 2004 -- It was a big weekend for the SpeedSource Race Engineering team at the Mont-Tremblant 250, the fourth of ten rounds of the Grand Am Cup Series. Shortly after winning the Mazda RX-8's first professional race in the world at Phoenix International Raceway, the #70 car took first place in the Mont-Tremblant qualifying round giving the team its first pole of the season and the first professional pole position for the Mazda RX-8. Drivers Sylvain Tremblay and David Haskell took the checkered flag on Saturday with another top-five finish for 2004. This is the third top-five finish for the SpeedSource Race Engineering team in only four races.

Also finishing in the top ten for the team was #67. The #67 car took seventh place while drivers, Nick Fanelli and Rich Walker, achieved their best finish for the year thus far. The SpeedSource #68 car faced some electrical difficulties during the race. However, drivers, Scott Schlesinger and David Tuaty, were able to finish the race and brought their car in at sixteenth place. Scoring twelfth place points were drivers, Marcelo Abello and Benoit Theetge in the #66 RX-8.

In the 65 car, Shauna Marinus debuted for the first time as a SpeedSource Team member. Marinus signed with the SpeedSource team in early April.

"Shauna was in a new car and had a big task. She got along well with the team and we are happy to have her," commented Tremblay.

Marinus and partner, Paul Mears, took eleventh place at the Mont-Tremblant race.

Team driver/owner and Montreal native, Sylvain Tremblay was extremely pleased with his team's performance in Quebec. Tremblay, who now resides in Sunshine, Florida, added, "The entire team worked hard on set up and we got our first pole. I'm very happy!"

Further solidifying SpeedSource's commitment of excellence and workmanship were the Robinson Motor Sports cars. The two Mazda RX-8s were built for the Robinson team by SpeedSource Race Engineering. The #89 and #49 cars took eighth and thirteenth place in their first Grand Am Cup race of the season. All SpeedSource built Mazda RX-8s are competing in the Sport Touring division.
