Team Sahlen Cup Effort Takes 6th at Phoenix
Team Sahlen was one of two teams this weekend at Phoenix International Raceway to compete in both Grand-Am Cup races. The Team Sahlen Grand Am Cup duo of Joe and Wayne Nonnamaker took sixth place this weekend while teammates Joe Sahlen and Will Nonnamaker worked hard to improve their position.
Joe and Wayne Nonnamaker paired up in the intense Arizona heat to land the 6th place finish in the Grand Sport class at PIR. Joe started the race while Wayne Nonnamaker jumped in and moved the car up six positions by the end of the Phoenix Twin 200.
"We were concentrating on holding off several cars who were closing in on us but were able to maintain our position towards the end. Our pit stop was what allowed us to remain on the lead lap. The crew had one of the best stops I have ever seen them do. The team did a great job," stated Joe Nonnamaker.
Great driving and excellent pit strategy gave Team Sahlen drivers, Joe Sahlen and Will Nonnamaker a 12th place finish at PIR. After qualifying 20th, this also gave the drivers their best position improvement for the season.
Sahlen and Will Nonnamaker also competed in the Sport Touring race held on Friday afternoon. Sahlen and Nonnamaker took 13th place in the Ted's Hot Dogs/ Team Sahlen Dodge SRT. This was the second race in 2005 the Team Sahlen Dodge has competed in the Sport Touring class.
"We were very pleased with our finish in the Sport Touring class. There are several very strong teams in that class and we were very pleased to have done so well with this only being our second race so far in this car," stated Will Nonnamaker.
