Freedom Autosport Riding High After Trois-Rivieres; Aiming for Podium at Miller

TOOELE, Utah--Freedom Autosport started the 2010 GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge season with a win, and they intend to end it the same way. After putting both of their Mazda MX-5s on the podium at Trois-Rivieres, Freedom Autosport is ready to end the season with another podium during this weekend's finale at Miller Motorsports Park.

The team is making the long trek from Raleigh, North Carolina, to Tooele, Utah, to compete in the Street Tuner class for the final time this year. Finishing second and third during the previous round at Trois-Rivieres means Freedom Autosport has a lot of momentum.

"We hope to continue what we began at Trois-Rivieres," notes Tom Long, who co-drives the No. 25 Freedom Autosport Mazda MX-5 with Derek Whitis. "We've been competitive there in the past and last year we battled until the end for a podium finish. The Mazdas are strong at Miller, and the team has done a great job preparing them."

Despite that race-long battle for the podium, Long and Whitis had to be content with fourth at Miller last year. This time, Whitis intends to turn the tables. "The Mazda MX-5 loved the harder braking zones of the full course, but we'll meet the challenge of the new course setup. Regardless of the track, our Mazdas do a great job," says Whitis.

Andrew Carbonell and Rhett O'Doski took home third place at Trois-Rivieres. The podium finish has fueled their desire to make up for an 11th-place finish at Miller last year.

"We lost our ABS last year, and that made it a difficult race since we really rely on our brakes a lot at Miller," says Carbonell. "We're going back with high hopes. We're running a shorter layout, and the high-speed corners on this configuration are well-suited to the Mazdas."

"Last year the Mazda was competitive, but we had some bad luck," agrees O'Doski. "We're looking forward to some redemption this year. I love that part of the country and Miller is a great place to end the season."

The season finale will be a busy one for Freedom Autosport. Following Friday's practice sessions, the team will qualify and race on Saturday, September 11.
