Team Sahlen's Joe Sahlen and Will Nonnamaker will be returning to the KONI Challenge Series Street Tuner class at Miller Motorsports Park
In 2006, the duo raced a Dodge SRT-4 at Miller. Qualifying in 3rd position, starter Will Nonnamaker led a lap in the early portion of the race, until a mechanical glitch forced the Team Sahlen entry out.
For the 2007 race, the duo will not be in their familiar Dodge SRT-4. A special invitation by SpeedSource to drive the famous #70 Mazda was an opportunity to special to refuse. The #70 is the number that SpeedSource used to win their 2004 & 2005 Championships.
"We are very excited to have Joe Sahlen and Will Nonnamaker in our #70 SpeedSource Mazda at Miller. Our goal is still to win the 2007 ST Manufacturer crown for Mazda. We already have Jose Armengol and David Haskell in the #69 Mazda. This addition only strengthens our line-up in this quest." - states team owner Sylvain Tremblay
For Will Nonnamaker, driving a Mazda brings back a flood of memories. From 1993 to 1999, Will drove Mazdas in the Street Tuner class. He first started in the MX-6 and then evolved to the 626. The capstone to this partnership was winning the 1999 Street Tuner Championship with his brother Wayne.
"It's amazing how life comes full circle. Getting to race a Mazda again is really exciting. I have very fond memories of driving the MX-6 and 626. Those cars were front wheel drive, so the rear wheel drive RX-8 will be a new experience." - states Will Nonnamaker
Support for SpeedSource's #70 Mazda at Miller Motorsports Park comes from Sahlen's, HRPWorld.com, Kempthorn Auto Mall, HAWK Performance, TheRaceSite.com, TheRaceMarket.com, Grassroots Motorsports, GOJO, Holliday Canopies, and Genesis Technologies.
