Plumb Brothers Team Up Twice at VIR
(Alton, VA) 4 October 2008- As many parents can attest, one of the best ways to settle a sibling rivalry is to put both contenders on the same team and get them to focus their competitive instincts against a common enemy. For brothers Matt and Hugh Plumb, this weekend will see them go up against a common enemy of over 100 other racers as they race in both segments of the Grand-Am KOIN Challenge season-ending Bosch Engineering Twin Six hours at Virginia International Raceway.
Matt and Hugh, who teamed for a run to 2nd in the 2006 Grand-Am KONI Challenge Championship together, will share two different race cars in two different races this weekend.
The weekend docket is a busy one for the two, as the brother pairing will first revisit the ST Class together in the same Bill Fenton Motorsports Honda Civic Si that Matt won the New Jersey Motorsports round on Labor Day weekend with Bob Beede before teaming once again on Sunday in the GS class in the No. 60 Sunset Hills Winery Ford Mustang with Mike Canney.
"We get along really well and that carries over to how we work together during a race weekend," said Matt, who also starred in Daytona Prototype competition this year. "So to get to run two races in two different cars is a great opportunity for us. Hopefully we can end the year on a strong note with both cars. Bill Fenton Motorsports does a great job, and hopefully we can get this car back to the winners circle."
"It's really easy for us to race together," said Hugh. "I didn't know much about what this new Civic was like before this weekend, and Matt had never driven the Mustang before, so we've been helping each other out as much and it's gone really well. Our driving styles are pretty complementary as well, so that helps with how we set the cars up. Obviously we are pretty close in our times but we both want to be faster than the other, so that helps us push each other that extra bit."
The weekend got off to a good start, as Hugh set the fifth fastest time in qualifying for the GS class race, with Saturday's ST class event netting a seventh place finish in race one with Matt, Hugh, and Bob Beede in the Honda Civic as Bill Fenton Motorsports had both team entries in the top ten.
