Driver Points Standing Close as TheRaceSite.com Racing Heads to VIR

North Canton, Ohio - With three races left in the Grand-Am Cup season both drivers and teams are fighting for top positions. For TheRaceSite.com, these goals are not outrageous but considering all drivers and teams in contention for top five spots, the race at Virginia International Raceway is especially crucial.

Following the Miami race former points leader and TheRaceSite.com driver Craig Stanton moved to second place. Stanton's former co-driver, Terry Borcheller, moved ahead of Stanton by only ten points with his eighth place finish at Miami. Stanton and Borcheller partnered up for the first three races of the season, winning all three. Borcheller then entered the Mont Tremblant race with Powell Motorsports to team up with Devon Powell as his co-driver.

Also in a tight race are Joe and Wayne Nonnamaker, both tied for fourth position. They trail current third place position drivers BJ Zacharias and Michiel Shuitemaker by only two points. Only one point behind the Nonnamakers, are fifth place contenders Larry Rehagen and Ken MacAlpine.

Stanton took his fourth win of the season at the Watkins Glen track back in June with co-driver David Murry. Neither Stanton nor Murry participated in the June Mid Ohio Race due to another driving commitment that same weekend. An unfortunate incident at Miami was what moved Stanton into second place for driver standings but his teammates are confident in their abilities.

"Craig is really a dynamic driver. He and David have been driving very well for us. Although the points are close, Craig's experience and physical capabilities are really what give him an advantage. David's vast experience of sports car racing is really an attribute to the team itself," states driver Will Nonnamaker.

Stanton actively participates in triathlons and various outdoor pursuits. Not only does Stanton drive for TheRaceSite.com Racing but he also is an instructor and test driver. He and Murry co-drive for Peterson Motorsport/White Lightning Racing in the American Le Mans series.

David Murry joined TheRaceSite.com Racing team at the Mont Tremblant race. As well as Stanton, Murry also acts as a driving instructor. Murry is a well versed driver and has driven everything from Sprint Cars to Formula One.

Luckily for TheRaceSite.com Racing team, VIR is a track that they are confident on. The team took victories there in 2001, 2002, and 2003.

"Wayne, and I have had some good runs this year. We have come close to finishing third. Our confidence at the VIR track should make it a good environment for us. Having three cars in the top five is definitely in the realm of possibilities. Our crew has really been working hard to get the cars ready. I am looking forward to the Virginia race," states Joe Nonnamaker.
