Iron Man Murry To Pull Double Duty This Season

ALTON, Va. (February 25, 2005) -- After racing Porsches together in three different series last season, including the Rolex Sports Car Series and Grand-Am Cup Series, drivers David Murry, of Atlanta, Ga., and Craig Stanton, of Long Beach, Calif., will reunite in the Synergy Racing No. 80 Porsche GT3 Cup this season for a run at the GT championship.

However, Murry will not be giving up his spot in Synergy Racing's autobysite.com/pipeservicestt.com-sponsored No. 81 Porsche with co-driver Mae Van Wijk, of Houston, Texas; instead the iron man will pull double duty, starting in the No. 80 car and finishing in the No. 81 entry.

"I have never done this before, and I am really looking forward to it," Murry said. "It really puts a challenge out there for us. I think it would be great to have a 1-2 finish in a race or two."

"We have an interesting spin with three drivers and two cars, but I think it will work out real well," Stanton added. "Strategy is going to be the key. This will be the fifth time over the years that David and I have teamed together. We just keep getting stronger as teammates and the results show it. I'm looking forward to continuing on with that."

The combination of Murry and Stanton was a potent one last season. The pair picked up the Rolex Series SGS win at the Grand Prix of Miami and a second-place finish at Phoenix. That was in addition to their three victories in the Grand-Am Cup Series en route to Stanton's GS driver championship.

While Stanton was not part of Synergy Racing's effort at the season-opening Rolex 24 At Daytona, teaming with Baldwin-Tafel Racing for a fourth-place GT finish, he is no stranger to Synergy Racing. Stanton partnered with Van Wijk for several events last year and helped bring out the best in the up-and-coming driver, tying her career-best finish of fourth at Barber Motorsports Park. Although Stanton will not share the wheel with Van Wijk in the No. 81 Porsche this year, he views both her and Murry as his teammates in Synergy's GT effort.

"This will be the second year Mae and I have teamed-up," Stanton remarked. "We earned the SunTrust Improve Your Position Award twice last year, so we work very well together. I think this is one of the most interesting line-ups out there and we're going to be a lot of fun to watch. I can picture a podium where David has to keep running from one step to another."

"I am really encouraged by Mae's progress from last year. She went seven seconds per lap faster than she did last year at Daytona," Murry noted. "I feel she is making leaps and bounds forward, and I'm looking forward to her first podium."

Stanton will join Van Wijk and Murry in Synergy Racing's GT effort next weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway in the Grand Prix of Miami, March 3-5. The race will be televised live on SPEED Channel on Saturday, March 5 at 3 p.m. ET. For additional information, visit www.grandamerican.com.
