Archangel Scores a Podium finish at The Glen.
June 24, 2002 Road Atlanta, GA -- Archangel's first return to the Rolex Sportscar Series since the race at Homestead-Miami Speedway netted the team a podium finish this weekend at the Six Hours of the Glen.
Archangel's #22 Altigen/CTI Communications Nissan Lola B2K/40, piloted by David Sternberg, Peter MacLeod and Bret Arsenault, took the checkered flag 3rd in class and 4th overall after completing 177 laps at the fabled circuit.
The car, which started the race 10th overall and 4th in class, ran almost trouble-free during the six-hour timed event, except when, with only 33 minutes left in the race, the car was brought into the pits with a problem with the left rear wheel. As it turns out, the problem was minor -- a wheel pin had come out -- and after solving the problem, taking on some fuel and shod with new tires, the car was back on track. When the car came into the pits it was 3rd in class and 4th overall -- and even with the last minute repair and pit stop -- the car still finished 3rd in class and 4th overall.
"We're very happy with our effort today at Watkins Glen," said team owner Mike Johnson. "We had three drivers that have never raced here before, and two of those drivers have never even driven an SRP. To finish 3rd in class and 4th overall is a testimony to these driver's abilities to adapt and adjust. We pretty much expected that we'd finish 3rd in class -- but the 4th overall was a very welcome surprise! It was great being back in a Rolex event!"
