Tire Decision Keys Victory For Magnussen, Theys at The Glen

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (Aug. 16, 2004) -- Jan Magnussen and Didier Theys, co-driving a Lexus-powered Doran, used good tire strategy to propel their team to victory in the Sahlen's 200 at The Glen race for the Grand American Sport Car Series.

It was the first series victory for the Doran Lista team, the flagship team for chassis builder Kevin Doran, in Grand American history and it marked the fifth different winner in the series this season, a single season record.

Goodyear is the exclusive tire supplier for the Daytona Prototype class. The winning car was a Daytona Prototype. Oswaldo Negri Jr. and Burt Frisselle finished second in another Lexus Doran. Wayne Taylor and Max Angelelli, driving a Pontiac-powered Riley, took third. The Pontiac Doran driven by the all-star pairing of Oliver Gavin and Terry Borcheller finished fourth and a Lexus Riley driven by Max Papis and Scott Pruett was fifth.

The race started under dry conditions, but the middle portions of the event were dominated by rain. Late in the going, Magnussen was piloting the Doran car when the rain lessened. The team was the first among the frontrunners to duck in the pits to switch back to racing slicks.

With the laps winding down and the track's surface drying, Magnussen quickly went to the front to collect the victory.

NASCAR Nextel Cup star Tony Stewart teamed with Andy Wallace in a Pontiac Crawford and finished eighth.
