Team Sahlen Driver Leads Akin Award Prior to Final Glen Race With Competition Looming

Team Sahlen driver Will Nonnamaker has led the Bob Akin award for most of the 2005 Grand American Rolex season. Nonnamaker will be competing in the Crown Royal 250 at the Glen this Saturday to gain momentum on Grand Touring class drivers also making a charge for the award. With team in tow and Grand American Rolex joining IRL's weekend at Watkins Glen International, the three time professional champion will be in front of an enthusiastic crowd of race fans.

"The Bob Akin award is something I have been working hard to achieve all season. I have had a lot of support from my teammates and crew and we are very excited for the race at the Glen. There are three more races left in the season and for the Glen race I am hoping to extend that lead. It has been a great season for our team and we are looking forward to finishing strong here towards the end of the season," says Will Nonnamaker.

The award itself is comprised of the driver's finishing position and number of laps driven. Through that system, each Grand American Rolex Grand Touring driver is awarded points. Following the Mid Ohio race Team Sahlen driver Will Nonnamaker leads the Bob Akin award chase with 3,531 points to his name. Marc Bunting currently stands at a close second with 3,506 points. In third place is Mae Van Wijk with 3,081 points.

Will Nonnamaker will be joining the Grand Touring class during the Crown Royal 250 at the Glen on Saturday, September 24th at 3:00pm EST. The race will be broadcasted live on SPEED. For additional race information visit TheRaceSite.com.

Team Sahlen competes in the ROLEX Grand American Series with support from HRPWorld.com, TheRaceSite.com, Rembrandt Charms, TheRaceMarket.com, Kempthorn Auto Mall, UNICHIP, Lamin-X, Racetech, and Grassroots Motorsports.
