ORISON-Planet Earth Motorsports and Dads Take Three Top Ten Spots at the Glen

Watkins Glen, NY - Father's day was a huge success for the ORISON-Planet Earth Motorsports effort as three sets of father-son teams scored top ten finishes in the Grand American Rolex Series Super Grand Sport class on June 20th. The six hour race at Watkins Glen was aired live on Speed TV.

All cars of the ORISON-Planet Earth Motorsports team had excellent times in this highly competitive race. Great teams and drivers made it challenging for drivers of any experience level to compete.

The team gridded third in class with the #41 ORISON-Planet Earth Motorsports Porsche GT3 Cup. Wayne Nonnamaker started the car and ran in the top three for his stint and even led for brief stints of time. The #41 was headed for a sure podium finish when a driveshaft failed four hours into the six hour event.

"Midway through the race we got hit on the right rear wheel and we think that is what broke the driveshaft," commented Crew Chief Mike Thomas. "We were very competitive this race. We ran in the lead and we finally have hit upon a set up that is fast and works for our drivers."

The father-son duo of Brett and Sam Shanaman took home fifth place in the team's #42 ORISON-Planet Earth Motorsports Porsche GT3 Cup. The two had a great race going when contact during the race forced the team into the pits for a flat tire under green flag conditions.

Brothers Steve Shelton Sr. and Tom Shelton Sr. teamed with Steve's son, Steve Shelton Jr. in the team's #43 SheltonPorsche.com Porsche GT3 Cup. They completed the race at 9th place in the Super Grand Sport class.

"Both the Sheltons and the Shanamans did a great job driving this weekend and we are pleased with our team's results. They are all busy people and don't get a lot of time to drive. For them to come here and perform as they did is wonderful. What a great father's day present for the dads," stated driver, Wayne Nonnamaker.

The next race for the ORISON-Planet Earth Motorsports will be the Paul Revere 250 on Thursday July 1st. The team now has its sights set on better times.

"In one week from now our trailer leaves for Daytona. We have a lot to prepare in the next several days. We are taking planning on two cars taking the track. This should be a really fun race with the NASCAR qualifying round right before the race. We hope to get the race result that we missed out on from the hit at the Glen," Nonnamaker added.

The ORISON-Planet Earth Motorsports team is supported by GOJO, Jack Link's Beef Jerky, Menards Home Improvement, Kempthorn Auto Mall, NRAuto.com, Red Line Oil, SpeedSource, TheRaceSite.com, TheRaceMarket.com, Grassroots Motorsports Magazine & 9 Magazine in its 2004 Grand American Rolex season.
