The Aston Martin-shod pair were in contention for all 101 laps, the first stint putting on an excellent battle between George Miedecke and John Martin in the Walkinshaw Porsche.

While Martin narrowly won the battle, it was the Miedecke Aston that came out of the stops in front thanks to a favourable compulsory pitstop time. And once in front, the #95 car stayed there for the rest of the race.

Not that it was that simple; Martin’s co-driver Duvashen Padayachee did well to reel in the leasing Aston, even going door-to-door with Andrew Miedecke at the end of the second stint.

But again the stops handed the advantage to the Miedeckes, even a five-second penalty for a track limits infringement while Andrew was in the car not enough to stop them taking a 17s win (on corrected time).

“That’s a long day, but that pretty much tops it,” said George Miedecke. “Family team, family drivers – I just love it.”

Greg Taylor and Nathan Antunes finished third in the GT Motorsport Audi, ahead of the Nathan Morcom/Grant Denyer McLaren.

Liam Talbot and Jake Fouracre had been on for a decent result in the Skwirk Audi, but dropped back to 10th after getting a left-rear puncture on the penultimate lap thanks to a run-in with John Bowe’s Ferrari.
