Victory for the Audi R8 LMS at Jarama
FIA GT3: On the third race weekend of the FIA GT3 European Championship at Jarama (Spain), Bernd Herndlhofer and Kenneth Heyer clinched the first European Championship victory of the year for Audi. The duo from Team Rosberg pushed forward from position 15 on the grid to first place in round one and thus gave their team its first triumph in the series. In round two, as well, two drivers of an Audi R8 LMS -- Greg Franchi and Stephane Lemeret from Team Sainteloc-Phoenix in third place - finished on the podium. A podium position was just barely missed by Christer Jons and Sean Paul Breslin (Black Falcon) who came fourth in the first race.
Mattias Ekstrom leaves strong impression
NASCAR: Mattias Ekstrom left a strong impression in his first race of the NASCAR series at Sonoma (U.S. state of California). After a problem in qualifying the Audi "factory" driver in the race pushed forward into the group of front runners from grid position 38 with fast lap times and a good strategy of the Red Bull Racing USA team. The Swede even led the race some of the time. With a place among the top ten in sight, Ekstrom was turned around by a rival just before the end of the race, though. A recovery on the last laps enabled him to move forward again from 34th to 21st place.
Romain Dumas at Audi MedCup
Le Mans: Le-Mans winner Romain Dumas visited the Audi A1 Team on the final day of the Audi MedCup at Marseille. The sailing team of the German Jochen Schuman finished in third place at Marseille and is currently the runner-up in the overall standings of the Audi MedCup.
