Double Podium for Wall at Bathurst

Reigning Australian GT Champion David Wall has picked up another two podium finishes in the GT races today at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, extending his championship lead.

Yesterday, David qualified his Wilson Security Porsche in 2nd place alongside the Aston Martin of Tony Quinn, with his nearest championship rival Peter Hackett in 6th place.

The biggest challenge for David is both races was holding the cars behind him on the fast straights.

"The power differences between me and the cars around me was really noticeable," said David after the race.

"On the last lap of the first race Greg Crick in his Viper was able to fly past me on the Mountain Straight almost as if I was standing still!

"I was able to re-take 3rd place in the final corner and pick up a few extra points which may be important in the Championship battle."

Race two saw David run in third place from lights to flag, pushing Klark Quinn for the whole race.

"I was much quicker than him over the top of the mountain, but I was not able to capitalise on that as he was able to easily pull away from me on the straights."

David's main championship rival, Hackett, had a bad weekend with a DNF in the first race and 10th in the second race.

"My car was a handful today and I really struggled with it so I am rapt to come away with two podium finishes and more valuable championship points," he said.

"We have been able to pull out a bit more of a lead in the Championship this weekend, but with one round left anything can happen.

"The Australian GT Championship allows drivers to drop their worst round so we will not know where we stand until the final round at Sandown.

"We know it is going to be close and we still have a battle ahead of us."

In between the two GT races today, David was back with the Fair Dinkum Sheds Racing team for the only V8 Supercar practice session of the day.

David did two runs on full tanks in preparation for tomorrow's main race, the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 V8 Supercar endurance race.

Race day at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 kicks off with a 20-minute warm up session at 8am and the 1000km race begins at 10:30am.

David Wall and his co-driver Karl Reindler will start the race in 22nd position.

David Wall is racing this year thanks to the continued support of Wilson Security, Payce, Shannons and Mount Aqua.
