Australian GT Champion out to Extend Championship

Reigning Australian GT Champion David Wall is itching to get back out on the track for round three of the championship at Sydney's Eastern Creek this weekend.

This round will see the series switch from the three sprint race format of the opening two races as a support for the V8 Supercar rounds at Clipsal 500 and the Australian F1 Grand Prix to run as the headline category with an endurance race format.

Australian GT Championship points will this weekend be fought for over two, one-hour endurance races as a part of the Sports Car Carnival meeting at the New South Wales track.

After nearly two months since the second round of the Championship, David is keen to get back out in his Wilson Security backed Wall Racing Porsche Cup S.

"The championship is very tight at the moment with just 14 points between me and Peter Hackett so it is very important to do well this weekend," David said.

"I am looking forward to the longer race format; I really enjoy the added challenge of endurance racing."

It has been a busy week for David who on Monday was announced as a co-driver to Karl Reindler in the Fair Dinkum Sheds Racing Commodore for this year's V8 Supercar Championship endurance races.

David also had his first run in the BJR Commodore on Monday.

"I am really excited to have the opportunity to race with the BJR team this year. On Monday I got my first taste of the team and the car ,and I was impressed," he said.

"I completed a number of laps in both the dry and they wet during the test day at Winton Raceway. The car felt really good and the team were fantastic - I am confident that Karl will be a good teammate.

"The test was cut a day short because of the wet weather, but I am hoping to be back out again in the car soon to get some more miles under my belt before the Phillip Island race in September."

David raced in the enduros with Leanne Tander in the Wilson Security Racing Falcon last year and this year's enduros will be the first time he has raced a Commodore in the category.

Supporting David again this weekend will be his sponsors Shannons, Payce and Mount Aqua.

All the action from this weekend's round of the Australian GT Championship can be seen on Friday 18 June at 18:30 on ONEHD. Check your local guides.
