Nurburgring Preview 15/16 Sept 2001
After a hectic weekend at Donnington the Team are looking forward to the challenges of the Nurburgring. Both the engine and ABS problems that plagued the car at Donnington will be sorted for Germany. Dr Peter Worm and Rob Schirle had an interesting race at Donnington due to the left rear continually locking up hence both had spins coupled with Saturday's downpour 10th and 6th for a new car was all that could be expected.
Donnington was the first outing for the No 13 Diablo after a major crash in testing at the Kyalami Circuit in South Africa last November. As a result of the crash the car was written off and Dr Peter Worm ended up spending around 4 months in hospital in SA and back in Germany with extensive injuries to his left leg. The car has been fully rebuilt back to its original race specification and the Donnington outing proved to be a useful test session in preparation for the team's home race at the Nurburgring. Again Donnington was also the first competitive race Dr Peter Worm since his accident last year and as we know conditions were far from perfect as Donnington recorded the wettest race in the circuit's history.
So to the Nurburgring without an ABS problem, Donnington proved that the car is quick as both drivers were holding back a bit due to the lack of effective brakes even with this problem some of Sunday's lap times were on par with the race winner Lee Cunningham's times so Germany should be an exciting race.
The Driver line up is hopefully the same as Donnington with Dr Peter Worm and Rob Schirle from Cirtek Motorsport running in the Pro Driver Class. Rob enjoyed driving the Lamborghini Diablo GTR so much that he wants to come back and do it all again.
