Peter Morris wins Class 1 of the 2004 Michelin Porsche Club Championship in style at Donington Park this weekend in the final round of the season.
Morris started from pole with his Team GVR prepared 968 Club Sport but with a very wet first race, beating the 911 of Championship contender Ian White off the line was going to be a defining moment.
"The 911's have a reputation for being much better off the line in the wet than a 968" Peter Morris explained, "but my sprinting experience has paid off on more than one occasion this season and again I got a demon start - I don't think Ian White or John Williams were expecting it!"
Peter Morris pulled out a lead that wasn't threatened during the 25 minute race, as White and Williams battled over 2nd place and having played his points doubling joker, Morris picked up enough points to clinch the Class 1 title.
Race 2 on Sunday was a stunning end to Peter Morris' first season in the Porsche Club Championship. He lead off the line, but John Williams [911 3.2] and Tony Brown [911 RS] were pushing hard. All three cars enjoyed a great close battle with the lead swapping five times, until on the last lap through Goddards Brown went wide, he then span across the track and collected John Williams putting them both onto the grass on the pit straight, in an attempt to avoid them both Morris also ended up spinning. With the chequred raised it was a case of who could get off the rain sodden grass first!
"It was a amazing end to an adrenaline packed race" said an exuberant Morris afterwards, "I managed to get my front wheels back onto the track but the car spun around, so I slammed it into reverse and floored it, just as Tony was heading towards me and the chequered. I beat him by two tenths of a second!
"It was a sensational feeling to win in reverse. The Team were all leaping up and down on the pit wall, I don't think any of us could believe it!
"I've really enjoyed my first season in the Michelin Porsche Club Championship. I've had some fantastic close racing and to win the title like this and at my home circuit and in front of my family is just perfect.
