Lola Brno race notes

Lola's Sports Racing Team Sweden (SRTS) held off Lucchini Engineering to take victory in the fourth round of the FIA Sportscar series at Brno, Czech Republic, yesterday (Sunday), substantially increasing their lead in the SR2 driver and team championships.

An inspired mid-race stint from Lola's Thed Bjork in the Sports Racing Team Sweden Lola-Nissan B2K/40 put it in the perfect place to benefit when early race-leaders Renato Nobili and Massimo Monti retired their BM Autosport Tampolli with a spectacularly blown engine.

Lola's B2K/40 chassis (A.E.R/Nissan Engine) has been the car to beat so far this year, with the combined talents of Seattle's Larry Oberto, the 2000 SR2 American Grand-Am Champion and rapid young Swede Thed Bjork. The SRTS team has set the pace from the very start of the year in their Lola and have now extended their lead in the FIA Sports Car Championship.

Lola's B98/10 SR1 car, run by Kremer Racing with drivers Sam Hancock and Gary Formato, finished a commendable sixth place in its category at Brno. In the early stages of the race the Lola was running strong in third position. The Cologne based team finished 6th place overall, and recorded the third fastest lap of the race. The race was a competitive event won by John Nielsen and Hiroki Katoh of the Den Bla Avis Goh Dome-Judd team.

David Bowes, Managing Director of Lola Cars International said: "It is incredibly encouraging to be leading the SR2 driver and team championships at this stage and bodes well for the second half of the season."

The teams will re-group in Magny Cours, France, for the fifth round of the FIA Sports Car Championship on 29 July 2001.
