Zolder: Matteo Bobbi preview

BOBBI DETERMINED TO FINISH POSITIVELY THE SEASON

The closing round of the FIA GT is getting closer and this weekend will assign the drivers GT1 title 2009.

Matteo Bobbi and his crew-mate Alessandro Pier Guidi will have the objective to finish the season with a positive result after the podium obtained at Budapest.

The Belgian circuit of Zolder was opened in 1963 and since the beginning of 70s it housed several editions of the Formula One Grand Prix. The 80s showed safety limits of the track due to the run off areas being too small and the pit lane being too narrow that in 1981 led to the death of a mechanic of Osella, Giovanni Amedeo.

The thing that made the circuit sadly famous happened the following year: on the 8th May 1982, during qualifying of the Belgium Grand Prix, Gilles Villeneuve died after a flight caused by a contact of his Ferrari with the March of Jochen Mass happened in the sector right before the Terlamenbocht corner, subsequently slowed down by a chicane entitled to the great Canadian champion. The contemporaneous opening of the new track at Spa-Francorchamps marked the goodbye of Zolder from Formula One, without affecting the activity of the track.

In 1969 and 2002 the circuit housed two editions of the world cycling championship.

"I am determined to finish in a positive way this year's experience in FIA GT. It is likely that weather conditions will be an important variable, due to the forecast of heavy rain both for Saturday and Sunday: we will certainly not have any ballast on board and this will be an advantage compared to the latest races".
