75-CAR FIELD SET TO START 33RD ROLEX 24 AT DAYTONA
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- A 74-car field is set to start Saturday's 33rd Rolex 24 At Daytona International Motor Sports Association Exxon World Sports Car Championship and Supreme GT Series Grand Prix of Endurance at Daytona International Speedway.
IMSA made a dispensation to start the entire field of cars that had signed-in to the garages at the "World Center of Racing." The green flag is scheduled to fall at 3 p.m.
The major change in the lineup in Friday's final qualifying occurred when the Brix Racing Oldsmobile Spice BDG02 posted a lap of 1:44.804, an average speed of 122.285 mph; good for fourth spot on the grid.
Three Ferrari 333 SPs still hold the top spots on the grid. The fourth Ferrari sits fifth followed by five other World Sports Cars. A total of 19 World Sports Cars are scheduled to start the event.
Irv Hoerr maintained his pole position for the Exxon Supreme GTS-1 class, in 11th overall in the Brix Motorsport Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. A total of 30 GTS-1 cars are scheduled to start.
Austrian Dieter Quester grabbed the pole position for the Exxon GTS-2 class, with a lap of 1:59.561, 107.192 mph, in a BMW M-3.
