Henzler, Price, Farnbacher Road Atlanta preview

Daytona Champs re-unite in Atlanta

April 15, 2005-Braselton, GA -- Three of the four 2005 Rolex 24 GT class winning drivers will be re-united this weekend at Road Atlanta for the Grand Prix of Atlanta. This event will mark the first time the racers have been together since their dramatic win in the 24-hour classic endurance race.

German racer Wolf Henzler, who anchored the Daytona team, enters this weekend locked in a tight points race in the Speed World Challenge GT series. As the reigning Porsche Super Cup champion, Henzler has limited experience on Road Atlanta's legendary road course, but he has proven to be a master at quickly adapting to a variety of circuits. Driving the Applied Materials Farnbacher Loles Racing Porsche GT3 Cup, Henzler looks for his 5th consecutive pole in the highly competitive, 11 race GT series. Featuring a start-studded field of road racers, the series has a diverse range of high performance racecars, which include Porsches, Dodge Vipers, Chevrolet Corvettes and Cadillacs. Qualifying for the 50-minute sprint race is on Saturday April 16th with the race on Sunday.

Competing in a brand new race series, will be one of Henzler's Daytona co-drivers, Californian Shawn Price. Price, who as the CEO of Savvion, a very successful software company, epitomizes the "gentleman racer." While Price is an amateur competitor, his racing experience and achievements are quite impressive. In addition to the Daytona win, Shawn has raced and finished the tortuous Dakar rally on a motorcycle and won the Baja 1000 as an amateur in 2002. Early in his career, he was also a world ranked wind surfer. This weekend, Price will be competing in the inaugural IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge Series presented by Michelin. The 5 race series is, as its name implies, strictly for Porsche GT3 Cup cars and all competitors must be amateurs. With over 100 examples in the US, the GT3 Cup is one of the most successful racecars ever built by Porsche. Price will be racing with 6 other drivers out of the Danbury, CT based Farnbacher Loles Racing team.

Joining his fellow Daytona champs in Atlanta is Porsche Super Cup and Carrera Cup driver Dominik Farnbacher. Like most good European racers, Dominik started racing go-karts at an early age and since then has proven to be a fast and brilliant competitor. At the age of 16, Dominik became the youngest driver ever in the Carrera Cup series. In 2004 Dominik finished 7th overall in Super Cup and this year, between attending school in his native Germany and racing, Dominik will be a special consultant to the Farnbacher Loles Racing team, helping in race set-up and driver development.

The fourth driver from the championship team, Pierre Ehret, will be racing in Europe this weekend and is not able to attend the Atlanta race. While this weekend is about racing, Dominik, Wolf and Shawn are looking forward to meeting the fans and having a chance to catch up with each other. Said Price, "The Daytona win was one of the greatest moments of my life. While I am very excited to be competing in the IMSA Cup Series and I look forward to much more success in my racing career, I will forever share this special bond with Wolf, Dominik and Pierre. It was an incredible achievement."
