In the career of a racecar driver, it is always a special moment to race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Last Friday Al Carter raced twice in three hours at the iconic speedway. Al competed with TRG-Aston Martin Racing in the N. 007 CarryOn.com/B+ Foundation/Jetset Magazine/Eagle Tech Systems /Sideskinz/Adobe Road Winery/Royal Purple/Passtime with James Davison. He also competed in the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge with Rebel Rock Racing and co-driver Brett Sandberg with the No. 7 CarryOn.com/B+ Foundation/Eagle Tech Systems/Sideskinz/Stinkerz Porsche 997.

The racing week started on a high note for Al Carter who visited with The B+ Foundation the Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St. Vincent in Indianapolis. Al was once again welcomed by the great group of Child Life specialists at Peyton Manning and toured hospital rooms. As usual during these B+ Fighting Childhood Cancer Tour events, he put a smile on children’s faces battling childhood cancer.

Because of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Brickyard 400 event held at the same track on Saturday and Sunday, all practice sessions and qualifying for both series were packed in a one day event on Thursday.

Al Carter and Rebel Rock Racing teammate Brett Sandberg did their best during the two CTSCC sessions to prepare for qualifying and the race. Al qualified 14th out of a 23 GS-car field which gave him a 7th row starting position for Friday’s race. In the race, Al had a good stint and ran as high as third before stopping for driver change, new tires and fuel. Brett Sandberg continued behind the wheel of the No. 7 CarryOn.com Porsche and after getting a penalty during his stint, finished 13th.

Al Carter and co-driver James Davison were confident before traveling to Indy. They suspected that their 007 Aston Martin will be fast at the reconfigured road course designed in the infield of the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In practice, the Aston was one of the fastest cars of the GT Daytona field. In qualifying James did a great job and scored the 6th fastest time. Carter started from row 3 on Friday afternoon and did a very good job during his long an hour plus stint. Davison took over for the rest of the event and took the N. 007 CarryOn.com/B+ Foundation/Jetset Magazine/Eagle Tech Systems /Sideskinz/Adobe Road Winery/Royal Purple/Passtime to P1. He led the GTD class for a while and then stopped for tires and fuel. He restarted in 12th place then raced hard to cross the yard of bricks in 7th place.

On Thursday Al Carter introduced a new sponsor and travel partner, CarryOn. CarryOn.com is a new social travel site that delivers crowdsourced travel deals and group savings for individual members. Hundreds of racing fans visited the CarryOn display by the team’s transporter to learn about this new innovative travel site. Fans can now register online at www.carryon.com/racing to register and start saving on airlines, car rentals and hotels for their next trip to a race or any other travel destinations.

Al Carter and The B+ Foundation invited a family of B+ Heroes from Indiana to attend the race on Friday. Thanks to IMSA race director Paul Walter and his staff, the family was introduced to the drivers of the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge series at the beginning of the driver’s meeting. Brendan and Robbie who are currently battling cancer and their mom Susan who is also fighting cancer at the moment, met a lot of drivers including the Rebel Rock and TRG-Aston Martin Racing racers. They also had a blast when Alan Rudolph, the lead instructor from Bondurant School of High Performance took the kids in one of the Brickyard Challenge pace cars around the track at speed over 150 miles per hour.

Also to make it an even more special weekend, Rebel Rock Racing racers Martin Barkey and Al Carter decided to create their own little donation challenge and to donate to the Burdick family $100 for each position improved during their race. Martin Barkey and co-driver Kyle Marcelli improved 4 positions and Al Carter and Brett Sandberg one position. They all thought that they could have improved more positions so the two racers donated a $2,000 check to the family!

The Brickyard SportsCar Challenge race will be broadcast on Sunday, August 3 at noon EDT on Fox Sports 1. Al Carter’s next racing event is the Continental Tire Road Race Showcase scheduled on August 8-9 at Road America in Wisconsin.
