Daytona 24 Hours: Hr3 – Cadillac and Ford domination continues

Action Express Racing and Wayne Taylor Racing have got the Cadillac DPi-V.R trio a lap ahead of their nearest opponents, while Ford now runs 1-2 in GT Le Mans.

Prototype

Seb Morris in the #31 Cadillac led teammate Christian Fittipaldi by 20sec in the third hour, with NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon a further 28sec behind. Morris then blew the first chicane at the end of the hour, survived a close call with a GTD Lamborghini, and then the car stalled in pitlane - but Eric Curran resumed having lost just a single place to Fittipaldi.

Jeff Gordon finished his first stint in the WTR and handed over to Max Angelelli.

Renger van der Zande is best of the rest in the Multimatic Riley of Visit Florida Racing, 10 seconds ahead of Spencer Pigot in the #55 Mazda, with Ben Hanley a further 10sec down in the DragonSpeed Oreca.

The ESM Nissans run seventh and ninth in the hands of Ed Brown and Scott Sharp, split by the JDC-Miller Motorsports Oreca, currently piloted by Misha Goikhberg.

GT Le Mans

Dirk Muller in the #66 Ford continues to lead the class, but the big news is that ex-IndyCar ace Ryan Briscoe has sent the #67 past James Calado in the Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 to claim second, and has been inching closer to the leader. He had a minor rub with one of the GTD Acuras.

Another IndyCar star, Tony Kanaan, runs fourth, a dozen seconds behind Calado but only two seconds ahead of the best of the Corvettes, the #3 car driven by Antonio Garcia. The yellow C7.R is itself under pressure from Stefan Mucke in the fourth of the Fords, with Tommy Milner wheeling the defending Rolex 24 winning entry #4 Corvette in seventh.

GT Daytona

Jules Gounon has taken the lead in the class with the Land Motorsport Audi R8, almost half a minute ahead of Matt McMurry in the Park Place Porsche 911 GT3 R, with Gunnar Jeannette doing his customary top job in the Riley Motorsports Mercedes AMG GT3.

Rolf Ineichen is in the top Lamborghini currently, running fourth in the Grasser Racing Team #11 entry, ahead of Matteo Cressoni in the Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 488.

Prototype Challenge is led by 2016 Pro Mazda runner-up Patricio O’Ward in the Performance Tech Motorsports entry with Sean Rayhall second 75sec in arrears.
