Long Beach, Calif. Apr. 16, 2016 – The race started well for the Panoz DeltaWing Racing team with Andy Meyrick running in fifth and at a pace close to the leaders. Despite braking issues which became apparent 18 minutes in and caused the spin in lap 16, pace continued to be strong.

At half way, Katherine Legge took over and the DeltaWing’s pace continued to be good even with the continuing brake issues. At 30 minutes to go Legge remained in seventh but with 20 minutes to go, undetermined engine issues caused an early end to the day.

The team now travel to Laguna Seca where they intend to resolve the issues before the race in two weeks’ time.

Andy Meyrick: “A really disappointing finish to the weekend. We had a really strong and positive qualifying and start to the race which was very encouraging. To come here and to get some very competitive lap times was great but then obviously a huge disappointment not to get a result for the team after they’ve put in so much hard work. I want to thank them very much for their efforts and wish them all the best with the upcoming races. I look forward to joining them again for Petit Le Mans.”

Katherine Legge: “Disappointing race. Obviously we had brake issues and then with the engine stopping at the end it wasn’t what we’d hoped for. But again, we take the positives and the fact that we were a lot closer time-wise to the leader compared to last year, thanks to all the improvements that have been made. We wish Katie a speedy recovery and will work to come back better at Laguna.”

Tim Keene: “Definitely not the result the team deserve for such a strong-starting weekend. The brake issues are a bit of a concern because until that point they had never been better. The engine issue seems to be something we’ve never seen before as well. We have a new engine being shipped to Laguna and look forward to another strong weekend with the result we deserve.”
