Risi Competizione wins DEKRA Green Challenge Award, finishes third in GT-LeMans

Elkhart Lake, Wis. – The results from Sunday’s IMSA United SportsCar Championship race will show that the no. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 458 Italia started and finished in third position. It was, however, an extremely hard-fought race for drivers Giancarlo Fisichella and Pierre Kaffer with the duo leading the GT-LeMans class at various points during the race.
Fast work by the Risi Competizione crew and a gamble on strategy enabled the team to the lead just before the final stop, after which, Kaffer was locked in battle over the final forty minutes of the race. The fight for position ended with Kaffer taking the checkered flag in third position after a wild ride through the grass on the final lap.
The Risi Competizione team also captured the DEKRA Green Challenge Award, which recognizes the most environmentally clean, fast, and efficient car in the GT-LeMans class.
Scuderia Corsa makes up ground in GT-Daytona championship
Competing in the GT-Daytona class, the no. 63 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 458 Italia finished Sunday’s race in fourth position. What started as a big battle for position during the first hour turned into a fuel mileage race in the closing stages. With a pit strategy that enabled them the Ferrari to make it to the finish, Bell was able to finish the race in fourth position.
The result moves Bell and Sweedler to third position in the GT-Daytona championship, and closes their defecit to the championship leader by one point. Ferrari remains second in the GT-Daytona manufacturer championship.
The next IMSA race will be the Oak Tree Grand Prix at VIR on August 21-23 at Virginia International Raceway in Danville, Virginia.
