Ford GT: Introducing Ryan Briscoe

Ford Performance’s bid for the 2016 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship title in GTLM will be a truly global effort, with drivers from four different countries behind the wheel. Ryan Briscoe, of Australia, will pilot the No. 67 Ford GT with co-driver Richard Westbrook, of England, United Kingdom.

Briscoe is a 12-time IMSA and eight-time Verizon IndyCar Series race winner who rejoined the Ganassi team after most recently running the No. 8 NTT DATA car in the 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series for the team. Briscoe began his IndyCar racing career in 2005, driving the No. 33 for Target Chip Ganassi Racing (TCGR), and was also a driver of the team’s 2005 Rolex 24 at Daytona entry.

Over the past 10 years, Briscoe has driven for multiple IMSA teams, recording 12 wins over 36 races, and most recently won the 2015 Rolex 24 at Daytona and the 2015 12 Hours of Sebring in the GTLM class.

Ford GT Race Program in 2016

• Ford launches a four-car Ford GT race program in January 2016.

• All four will compete under the Ford Chip Ganassi Racing banner.

• Two cars will race in the full IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship series and will be based in the United States. Two will compete in the full FIA World Endurance Championship series and will be based in the United Kingdom.

Ryan Briscoe: “I’d been hearing about the car before any announcement was made and definitely had it in my foresight that this would be something amazing to be part of, but it’s hard in motor racing, as a driver. For me, personally, I’m sort of transitioning out of open wheel racing to sports car racing and it’s hard to put your thumb on when that day will come and when you’ll become a fulltime sports car driver. I couldn’t think of a better time for it to happen.

“I’m excited about the debut of the car, a whole new operation coming to the racing forum next year. I’m so excited for it right now. I just can’t wait for Daytona to come around and for us to go racing.”
