Konrad Motorsport to return to Rolex 24 at Daytona
The team that last year narrowly missed out on Rolex 24 Hours victory in the GT Daytona class – at least, on the road – will return in 2017 with its Lamborghini Huracan GT3.
Team boss Franz Konrad has confirmed a single-car effort for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season-opener, with Marc Basseng, Marco Mapelli and Lance Willsey set to share the wheel of a Lamborghini Huracan GT3.
Last year, the team had to duck out of the lead and into the pits with fewer than five minutes remaining, due to an ongoing refueling problem that forced the German squad to make more stops than its rivals. However, that became a moot point when Lamborghini and all its customers were hit with five-minute penalties for allegedly sandbagging when the Balance of Performance regulations were set.
Consequently Konrad, who has two Rolex 24 class victories to his name, saw his fifth-place finish on-the-road become 10th in the final results sheets.
The Konrad Motorsport entry is believed to be one of at least eight Huracans in IMSA’s GTD field at Daytona, joined by full-season entries from Paul Miller Racing and Change Racing, plus efforts from Dream Racing, Ebimotors and Grasser Racing Team.
