Diaz had a prolific Karting career before racing extensively in open-wheeled competition and then building solid foundations in America’s highest-profile prototype and sportscar contests.

The 36-year old from Mexico City has accumulated some impressive results in prototypes, most notably racing to the 2009 American Le Mans Series LMP2 Championship title and finishing as runner-up in the 2005 and 2006 Rolex SportsCar Series’ Daytona Prototype class.

Diaz joins Enzo Potolicchio’s flourishing 8Star Motorsports team alongside young Atlanta-domiciled charger Sean Rayhall for the remaining sprint rounds of the inaugural TUDOR Championship – an amalgamation of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) and Grand-Am.

The new teammates will partner-up for the first time in Round 3 of the 2014 TUDOR Championship, a two-hour blast around the 2.23mile Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California (3-4 May).

"I want to thank Enzo Potolicchio and 8star Motorsports for giving me this fantastic opportunity to join the team during for the remaining sprint races in the 2014 TUDOR Championship,” said Diaz. “The team is, without doubt, one of the top sportscar operations out there and I fully expect Sean (Rayhall) and I to fight for race wins everywhere we go. I'm also very proud to carry sponsorship from Takis, as it is a leading Mexican brand that will be very important for the team and for the series in the future.

“Last year I won the Laguna Seca LMPC race so returning there for my first event of 2014 gives me a lot of confidence. Since I'm only running a partial schedule, my goal will be to fight for the victory everywhere we go and help 8Star score as many points as possible."
