Corvette Racing will have a third car in their stable to compliment their two-car effort in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship race, but that car won’t be racing until 5:00 in the evening on Saturday.

Milner prepares for double duty

That car is reserved for the FIA World Endurance Championship Six Hours of Circuit of the Americas, and one of its pilots will also be driving a Corvette in the TUSC race. Tommy Milner will be pulling off double duty just like Ed Brown will be for Extreme Speed Motorsports, but unlike Brown, Milner will have a WEC car nearly 100 percent identical to its TUSC counterpart.

The conditions weren’t the same, but the TUSC car seemed to be quite a bit quicker which doesn’t surprise me

Milner’s car will have the same tire compound, while Brown has Dunlops in the WEC race and Continentals in the TUSC race. Milner expanded on the two Corvettes and their similarities.

Milner talks the cars

“Generally it’s the same car, so the car that we’re racing in the WEC race was our test car from last year. It’s the first car that Corvette Racing built, the tire compounds are the same from Michelin, there’s no difference there, there’s a little bit of difference in the weights of the car and the restrictor size of the car and that’s just down to the BoP with racing in the US here and at Le Mans,” Milner explained to Motorsport.com

Milner added that the driving style didn’t change between the cars, that braking points were the same despite the slight BoP adjustments.

The performance levels of the GTE-AM cars are basically the same as what we (TUDOR) have in the pro class

Tommy Milner

“The conditions weren’t the same, but the TUSC car seemed to be quite a bit quicker which doesn’t surprise me, if you look at the Porsche [911 RSR], for instance, you know they have a much bigger front splitter, bigger rear wing, more power so they should be quicker than their WEC counterparts,” Milner said.

Traffic

The biggest difference between the two races for Milner will be traffic. In the TUSC race, there will be more slower traffic to negotiate and the WEC slower traffic's pace will be faster than those in the TUSC race.

“The performance levels of the GTE-AM cars are basically the same as what we have in the pro class, the GTD cars are on slower tires essentially and performance level of the cars is not the same as what we have,” Milner said.

“That will be the biggest difference between both races. In TUSC, we have lots of cars and we’re not the slowest class in that series so having to manage the traffic, passing them and then also being passed will be quite a bit different from what we see in the WEC race. So, [I’m] already seeing that with the fewer cars on track for the WEC and with the performance of the prototype cars and how much faster they are, that traffic is less of an issue for us in the WEC race than it will be for the TUSC race,” Milner added.

Milner will be sharing driving duties with Ricky and Jordan Taylor and the Taylor brothers will be driving in the TUSC race as well, but in a Daytona Prototype car for Wayne Taylor Racing.
