Canadian competitors experienced various feats during the opening round of IMSA competition down at Daytona International Speedway this past weekend.

European Formula 3 competitor Devlin DeFrancesco was the best placed Canadian at the end of the Rolex 24, first race of the 2018 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

DeFrancesco finished the 24-hour enduro in sixth place in the No. 85 JDC-Miller Motorsports ORECA LMP2. Another Canadian, Mikhail Goikhberg, arrived home in seventh place in the team’s sister car.

Williams’ Formula 1 driver, Lance Stroll, completed 777 laps in his No. 37 Jackie Chan DCR JOTA ORECA to claim 15th-place overall. Another driver from the province of Québec, Mikaël Grenier, took 28th place overall, and eighth in the GTD class, in the No. 75 SunEnergy1 Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3.

Driving the No. 14 3GT Racing Lexus RC F GT3, Kyle Marcelli finished 36th overall and 15th in GTD. Finally, Paul Dalla Lana did not finish the race and was classified 44th in the Spirit of Race Ferrari 488 GT3.

The four-hour race for the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge saw Toronto’s Scott Maxwell finished third in the No. 15 Multimatic Motorsports Ford Mustang GT4. Aaron Povoledo finished 13th overall in the No. 63 DXDT Racing Mercedes-AMG. Jesse Lazare endured a tough time in the No. 69 Motorsports In Action McLaren GT4 to take the 18th position.

Kuno Wittmer enjoyed a good race in the No. 74 Compass Racing Audi RS3 LMS to capture second place in the new TCR category. Kyle Marcelli also contested the Continental Challenge race where he finished 36th overall in the No. 60 Roush Performance/KohR Motorsports Ford Mustang GT4.
