Pagenaud leads IndyCar contingent at Petit Le Mans

New IndyCar champion Simon Pagenaud will join Action Express Racing for the WeatherTech Championship’s season finale at Road Atlanta next month, leading a host of IndyCar stars spread across two of IMSA’s classes.

Team Penske’s recently crowned IndyCar champion Simon Pagenaud will partner Dane Cameron and Eric Curran in the #31 Whelen Engineering Corvette Daytona Prototype. The Americans currently hold a one-point lead over their AX_Racing teammates Christian Fittipaldi and Joao Barbosa who will have Filipe Albuquerque as their extra for the 10-hour race.

Meanwhile Ryan Hunter-Reay will rejoin Marc Goossens and Ryan Dalziel in the Visit Florida Racing Corvette DP, as they attempt to close down on third-placed Ricky and Jordan Taylor in the Wayne Taylor Racing entry. The brothers will be joined, as usual, by Max Angelelli.

IndyCar rookie Spencer Pigot has been entered in both Mazda Prototypes – the #55 of Tristan Nunez/Jonathan Bomarito and the #70 of Tom Long/Joel Miller.

In the GT Le Mans category, Ford Chip Ganassi Racing has added two four-time Indy champions to its Ford GT lineup. Scott Dixon joins Richard Westbrook and Ryan Briscoe, who lie second in the standings while the Le Mans 24 Hour class-winning team of Sebastien Bourdais, Joey Hand and Dirk Mueller have been reunited in the #66 Ford.

Other pro “extras”

In Prototype category, Olivier Pla will be back with John Pew and Ozz Negri at Michael Shank Racing, and the Panoz Delta Wing Coupe will see Andy Meyrick teaming with Katherine Legge and Sean Rayhall for the car’s final race.

In GT Le Mans, Marcel Fassler will return to the #4 Corvette to join Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner, while Mike Rockenfeller joins their teammates, Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia.

BMW Team RLL will run Augusto Farfus alongside Bill Auberlen and Dirk Werner in the #25 BMW M6, as the #100 sister car will contain Kuno Wittmer along with full-timers John Edwards and Lucas Luhr.

Risi Competizione’s Ferrari 488 GTE will be raced by Giancarlo Fisichella, Toni Vilander and James Calado, while Scuderia Corsa’s similar car will  put Daniel Serra, Alessandro Pier Guidi and Andrea Bertolini together.
