Prototype regulations available to TUSCC teams

With months of speculation about balance of performance between the P2 and Daytona Prototype classes that will be put together for the inaugural TUDOR United SportCar Championship, teams have been given technical guidelines to follow for 2014.

A dual plane wing, new tunnel and diffuser, more horsepower and open regulations concerning brakes, suspension, clutches and differentials will be the improvements given to the DP car, in order to bring its performance to that of the P2 cars.

The P2 cars will see a Le Mans spec aero configuration for Daytona, Indianapolis and Road America, and will see 60 kg added for every single event.

The improvements to the DP chassis is rumoured to cost around $600,000, as opposed to the original estimate of $200,000. To put this into perspective, the cost of a new P2 car is around $570,000.

Scot Elkins says that these are just a draft of the planned improvements, and once the teams participate in a balance of power test in Daytona and Sebring next month, and give the series officials feedback, they will then iron out the final guidelines for the prototype category.

What will happen next however is yet to be seen, as the DP teams with more financial backing will have a better opportunity to complete these improvements, and other teams might find it more feasible to purchase a P2 car instead.
