Risi Competizione will start tomorrow’s 100-minute Tequila Patron Sportscar Showcase at Long Beach from 7th place on the GTLM grid and 16th overall. The third round of the TUDOR United Sportscar Championship will start at 3:10pm (Pacific Time) Saturday, 12 April.

Making his debut on the Californian track just this morning, and after only 75 minutes of practice, Giancarlo Fisichella was pitched into an intense qualifying battle against the might of the well-supported, full factory squads from Corvette (GM), BMW and Porsche.

The Italian set his fastest time of 1:19.037 on the fourth of his seven laps in the 15-minute qualifying – the No.62 Ferrari 458 Italia still not quite set up to the liking of the Ferrari Corse Clienti driver and his new team mate for this weekend, Californian Dane Cameron.

Fisichella said afterwards: “There is so little time in the schedule for practice this weekend and, as the team explained to me before we started, the early morning session and the late afternoon session showed themselves to be very different as far as the track and the feel of the car is concerned. Just before qualifying we made a little change to the set-up of the car but it didn’t work for us and we still had too much oversteer. The car was not predictable enough to push it harder.”

He and Cameron have been working very well together, combining the former’s extensive experience with the F458 with Cameron’s local track knowledge and proven performance level. The primary goal for the team tomorrow is to bring the car home to the checkered flag in the same pristine condition in which it starts the race!

Pole position in GTLM was set by Jan Magnussen in the No.3 Corvette with a new qualifying lap record of 1:17.939.
