In the Rolex 24, the DeltaWing showed enough pace to be able to potentially battle for the overall win, but reliability issues would have the final say in their day, which ended in the very early hours of the race.

It was a shame," driver Memo Rojas told Motorsport.com "We had a podium finish with the car at least but such is racing but Daytona's in the past and we have to think about Sebring now."

Successful Road Atlanta test

Going into Sebring, the team has been proactively working to end the gremlins. The team told Motorsport.com that the mechanics have put extra focus on the gearbox, which has been reinforced internally in an effort to make it more durable ahead of Sebring. A test session at Road Atlanta was a confidence booster as the car ran two hours without issue, including in wet conditions.

"The test was flawless; the gearbox was fine," Rojas said in a release. "We really didn’t have any issues. Before this test, I had run maybe 10 laps in the DeltaWing, so this was a great chance for me to get more acquainted with the car."

In regards to the gearbox, "I think the team did an awesome job working on the gearbox with EMCO, but it's one of those things you won't really know until race time

Memo Rojas

"Because the car is so light, it doesn’t lose grip under hard braking in the wet like some of the other prototypes, so I hope we get to race in the rain at some point this year.”

Alternator issues

Things didn't start off as planned upon arriving in Sebring though.

"Unfortunately, we missed first practice with an alternator problem," Rojas explained to Motorsport.com. "The team did a great job putting us back on track and we were able to run the full second practice. Right now, we're working on the balance of the car. It's hard to comprimise at Sebring between the bumps and the high-speed corners."

The car was low on the speed charts Thursday among the prototypes as the team battles those aforementioned balance issues.

Final thoughts from Memo

In regards to the gearbox, "I think the team did an awesome job working on the gearbox with EMCO, but it's one of those things you won't really know until race time, so I really hope the car is stronger and we can make it 12 hours."

As for the thought of going back-to-back after his 2014 triumph here with Ganassi, "I'd love to win it with DeltaWing ... Really would be a dream come true. It's really a historic race and we'll see, I'll let you know in a couple days (smiling)."
