Sebring 12h: Hr 8 – Taylor Cadillac takes lead with smart strategy

Wayne Taylor Racing, having regularly gone a lap or two longer than Action Express Racing’s #5 each stint, cashed in its chips at the 4hr30min mark by stopping on the same lap but for a much shorter time.

Prototype

With Ricky Taylor having sat four seconds behind Christian Fittipaldi on the previous stint, and saving a lap of fuel on several stints up to that point, it took far less time for Wayne Taylor Racing to top up his car when the two Cadillacs topped simultaneously.

Alex Lynn took over WTR’s car and thus emerged from the pits with a 5s lead over AXR, a situation that held steady right up until a full course yellow was thrown for Sage Karam’s Lexus stopping on track at the end of the hour. Lynn suffered a scare when he was briefly forced on to the grass in a four-wide lapping moment.

Misha Goikhberg has taken over #85 Oreca of JDC Miller, and it runs three laps down on the leaders, and with Eric Curran closing it down in the repaired #31 AXR Cadillac.

Kyle Masson now leads Prototype Challenge for Performance Tech Motorsports by two laps over Max Hanratty in the #8 Starworks car.

GT Le Mans

Billy Johnson in the #68 Ford leads Frederic Makowiecki’s #911 Porsche followed by the other two Fords of Ryan Briscoe and Dirk Muller.

Fifth in class is Toni Vilander in the Ferrari 488 with Jan Magnussen sixth in the Corvette.

GT Daytona

Pitstops apart, the order has remained fairly static, with Mario Farnbacher back in the #33 Mercedes and in the lead for Riley Motorsports, chased by Alessandro Balza in the Scuderia Corsa Ferrari.

Christian Engelhart and Bryan Sellers are third and fourth in a pair of Lamborghini Huracans with Christopher Mies still fifth in the Land Motorsport Audi R8.
