TVS Racing rider KY Ahamed resisted early challenge from teammate Jagan Kumar to notch his second win in the National Motorcycle Championship season opener at Coimbatore.

Ahamed shot to the lead at the start of the Superstock 165cc race, with polesitter Mathana Kumar S and Deepak Ravikumar slotting in second and third position respectively.

Jagan Kumar initially slipped down to fourth, but initiated a stunning comeback to take the lead on lap 5.

Ahamad managed to repass Jagan on the following tour and then began to eke out an advantage, before a rear tyre deflation for the latter settled the race in favour of the 23-year-old.

Ravikumar finished second to ensure another TVS Racing 1-2, while Honda’s Mathana completed the podium spots.

Jagan managed to limp home in sixth, securing some crucial points that may go some way in retaining the National title.

Shetty doubles up in Pro-stock (165cc)

Honda rider Anish Shetty also secured a 1-2 finish in the Pro-stock 165cc category, beating Kevin Kanan by half a tenth.

Mithun Kumar was classified another second behind in third, making it two Honda riders on the podium.

Other results

Reigning champion Amarnath Menon secured a convincing three-second victory in the Pro-stock 301-400cc category, leading a 1-2 finish for Gusto Racing.

Satyanarayana Raju was unable to challenge his teammate. But finished well clear ahead of third-placed of Antony Peter.

Sparks Racing replicated Gusto in the Pro-stock 165cc with Aditya Rajo finishing ahead of teammate Karthik Mateti. The team also triumphed in the National Ladies class, courtesy of Ann Jennifer.

Finally, the TVS one-make races were won by Bangalore’s Yashas RL, with Peddu Sriharsha finishing on the podium at each occasion.
