Chennai MRF F1600: Reddy a tough nut to crack

Thanks to the heavy rain on Thursday night, it was a bit of a dampener for the MRF F1600 races.

Though the drivers will compete on a 2.10Km shortened loop instead of the usual 3.74Km distance, we can expect a tough fight in this premier racing championship.

The fourth and penultimate round of the MRF MMSC FMSCI Indian National Racing Championship will see the best of Indian races fighting it out for the top spot.

Hyderabad’s Anindith Reddy is the leader in this category with 117 points and he has been in pretty good shape of late. With four wins from seven races, he is the man to beat.

Reddy has done some phenomenal driving in the preceding rounds. With that in mind, it is going to be a tough challenge for the others in the fray.

“Yes, we are going to lose some interesting corners but there is not much we can do,” Reddy told Motorsport.com. “We shall see how the races go.”

Chennai's Sandeep Kumar is on 72 points, while Chennai’s Chetan Korada has 66.5. Kolkata’s Arya Singh has 52.5 and Hyderabad’s Ishaan Dodhiwala is on 44.

Reddy gave a clear warning of his intentions later on Friday by clocking the fastest time in practice. His time of 58.149s was better than second-placed Arya, who clocked 58.643.

The winner of this championship gets a $200,000 scholarship for the Mazda Road to Indy shootout. Reddy will not be able to make it as the cutoff age is 25 and he is 27.
