Sunday's race at the Madras Motor Race Track was as exciting as things could get when it came to the top two battling for the last points the 2017 season.
Arya finished second, while Keith Desouza was third. Anindith Reddy, who has already wrapped up the championship, and Ishaan Dodhiwala took the next two places.
Starting from pole position, Sandeep Kumar got a great start and kept a good lead after the first lap.
Chetan Korada did not have the best of times and he dropped back. By then, Arya Singh had moved up to the second place, while Keith Desouza was in third place.
All three drivers were spaced out well and were away from the rest. Sandeep was 2.8 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.
Unlike Race 2, there was not much action and it was a pretty straightforward race. Sandeep Kumar maintained his lead and it varied just a little bit.
After four laps, the gap between Sandeep Kumar and Arya had reduced to about 2.4 seconds and it looked like the latter was pushing it now. It further reduced to 1.8 seconds but it was still going to be a difficult task to catch Sandeep Kumar.
With just a lap to go, the difference between the top two was just half a second. Arya was in striking distance of Sandeep but the latter just managed to stay in front.
