Coimbatore JK Tyre Racing: Capo takes victory in eventful race

Anindith Reddy finished second, while Bangalore’s Akash Gowda finished third.

However, Reddy was later penalised 10 seconds for overtaking under the yellow flag. This promoted Gowda to second and Nayan Chatterjee to third.

Ashwin Datta finished fourth, while Reddy was classified in fifth place.

The third round of the JK Tyre FMSCI Indian National Racing Championship at the Kari Motor Speedway saw some scintillating action as it became a bit of a rush to grab maximum points.

Hyderabad’s Reddy, the championship leader, was on pole position on the grid and Vishnu Prasad was second. It was always going to be a dash for the first lap lead.

But the 15-lap race was delayed a bit due to cars stalling on the grid and they ended up doing a couple of extra formation laps.

Reddy got off to a good start and retained his lead, but with Prasad close behind and already challenging him.

However, it turned out to be another disastrous race for Chennai’s Prasad as his enthusiastic try on Reddy saw him spin and crash out of the race on the first laps.

In this melee, Australian Ricky Capo took the lead and he already had a good lead margin. Reddy was in second place, while Gowda had moved up to the third place.

The gap was pretty equidistant between the top three cars for some time. But then, Reddy was beginning to threaten Capo.

After four laps, Reddy was all over the Capo’s tail. This continued for several laps, but Capo held out well and did some good defensive driving.

This was crucial for Reddy as he had to get as many points as possible.

In the 11^th lap, Reddy had a bit of a scare. He tried overtaking Capo and spun out of the track. However, this did not prove to be too much of a problem as he joined back in the second place.

Capo was first and then it was Reddy, followed by Gowda. But it only became easier for the Australian as he had a substantial lead.

Below the order, there were some skirmishes but it largely left the top of the order unaffected.
