Fastest at Road America

August 18,2006 -- Ace Carrio and the World Speed team just turned the fastest time in the first official session, and they were the only team in the 204s. (more than a second faster than last year's qualifying time)

Ace Carrio and the WSM pro team are in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin for the Generac 500 at Road America on August 17-19. At the same time the Russell Pro Series team is preparing a dozen Pro Formula Mazdas for rounds 11 and 12 at Infineon Raceway.

Stan Kohls who is leading the championship had a shunt in testing at Miller Motorsports Park last month that destroyed the #8 car. The team has been working around the clock to get this car and three other seriously damaged Pro Mazdas back in shape for RPS7.

"The Star Mazda Series drivers wrote off 20 cars the week before RPS6, stated Team Manager Mark Milazzo. This really put a strain on parts supply and we have had to be very creative, and put in extra long days to get the job done. It's what we do best, and the last few weeks the guys have been incredible."

World Speed Motorsports is leading the driver and team championship in the Star Mazda Series, and current points for both series can be viewed below:

The powerful machines of the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series will make their Infineon Raceway debut, Aug. 25-26, combining with the IRL IndyCar Series to offer fans an exciting weekend of road-racing action at the Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma.

Many of World Speed Motorsports' Alumni compete in Grand American, and the IRL series including Michael McDowell, Guy Cosmo, Alex Figge, Andy Lally, Mikel Miller, Jeff Bucknum, and Marc Antoine Camirand. A majority of the team will be off that weekend, and attending the event to cheer on their favorites.

The Rolex Series, which includes classes for Daytona Prototypes and production-based GT sports cars, will come to Infineon Raceway for the first time since its inception in 1999 and will be the featured event on Saturday of race weekend.

The Rolex Series, which will compete on the traditional 12-turn, 2.52-mile road course, will feature practice and qualifying on Friday, Aug. 25, with the two hour, 45-minute main event scheduled for Saturday at 3 p.m. Saturday will also feature qualifying for the IRL IndyCar Series and the first of two main events for the Indy Pro Series.
