The 2015 Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires grid gained another car as German F3 driver Weiron Tan joins Andretti Autosport’s championship effort.

The Malaysian won two races in the 2014 German F3 championship and had three other podiums on his way to a sixth place finish in the championship but feels he was better than his results indicate.

“We started off not so well because we struggled to really find the setup of the car but towards the end we got podiums and wins so towards the end we had really good pace,” Tan said.

Tan was testing with Andretti Autosport at NOLA Motorsports Park ahead of the upcoming Indy Grand Prix of Louisiana where he spoke about how the deal came about to run in America in 2015.

“My agent did a good job getting in touch with Andretti.  We’ve come a long way from Europe, and we saw an opportunity and just took it.  We think that the opportunity in the states where there’s a level you can climb for drivers to move up to Indycar, there’s a system that works, so we think that this is a really big opportunity for us to come here and do this,” Tan said.

Impressed with car

Tan was also very complimenting of how the Pro Mazda car drove compared to the F3 car.

“I actually prefer this car compared to the Formula 3 car, surprisingly.  This car feels faster, it feels more free, it doesn’t feel over-aeroed like the Formula 3 cars.  It feels really good to drive,” Tan said.

His goal is to win the Pro Mazda championship for Andretti Autosport, and he might be on his way to doing so after his test at NOLA Motorsports Park.
